The designs were similar to the stamps in the 1868 issue. Registered Letter stamps of a distinctive type first issued on 15th November 1875 and followed by other issues of the same type were superseded by the issuance on 1st August, 1893, of an 8-cent stamp intended to combine the current letter rate of three cents and registration fee of five cents. The new stamp was of similar type to the small cents design of 1870 excepting that Her Majesty's head turned to the left instead of to the right. Portrait of Her Majesty Queen Victoria from a medallion. Similar to the 1-cent orange stamp of 1870, but with the profile reversed.
